Code Of Conduct
Submitted by admin on Mon, 12/06/2006 - 19:41.
- Judges and trainees must be current members of the B.K.K.S.
- Judges and trainees must at all times be conscious of their responsibility in maintaining and promoting the high standards of the J.S.C.
- JSC badges are to be worn by all officiating judges and trainees at all shows.
- Early arrival at show grounds is important, any delay or difficulties should be reported if possible to the Show Chairman or a J.S.C. Officer.
- Replies to judging requests are to be made in writing within ten days of receipt.
- Judges and Trainees must be generally available for both Saturday and Sunday shows. A reason for declining a show should be returned to the Judge Allocation Officer.
- Trainees must be available for benching duties at the National Show unless they have a valid reason for non-attendance.
- Judges and trainees should dress in a manner appropriate to the public nature of their duties. The agreed uniform for all members of the JSC includes a navy blue blazer / jacket, white shirt and grey trousers (or skirt for female judges). A BKKS tie (men
) or blazer badge (women) should also be worn. - Judges and Trainees should not approach any area where benching is taking place.
- During judging the opinions and views of trainees will be actively sought as part of their assessment and training programme. However, all decisions are to be arrived at by the voting of full judges only.
- Open discussion during the decision making progress is to be encouraged but judges and trainees are reminded of their obligation in terms of behaviour. Heated arguments, raised voices and bad language are not to be tolerated as this reflects badly. not only on the individuals concerned, but also on the J.S.C. as a whole.
- Judges must be prepared to accept and abide by majority vote decisions.
- Judges and trainees should refrain from making derogatory remarks about individual exhibits, although constructive criticism is of course acceptable.
- During judging, eating, drinking or smoking near vats is prohibited. Regular refreshment breaks may be taken, but these should be well away from the exhibition vats.
- Whilst judging, discussion with members of the public, particularly concerning decisions, is not allowed. Any queries or questions should be dealt with after completion of judging.
- Judges and trainees should not be involved in the netting, handling or moving of koi, this activity should only be carried out by the appointed stewards.
- Judges should complete and return trainee assessment forms as soon as possible after each show. These form a valuable part of the trainee assessment programme.
- Any judge or trainee who is involved in any way with the acquisition/movement of koi with a wholesale or retail interest should be deprived of judging status. In all cases, the final decision as to the circumstances of individuals as to the status of individual judges or trainees, shall rest with the JSC.
- Judges and trainees should be aware at all times of the public nature of their duties and the obligation this brings. The presentation of an efficient and professional manner to the task in hand is of primary importance.
- Breaches of this code of conduct, or any activity which brings the JSC into disrepute, may result in the removal of the judge or trainee concerned.
