Well this Wednesday saw Val and I at our very well attended April Section Meeting. Our Guest Speaker was Mike Snaden of Yume Koi Bristol who had just gotten back from a trip to Japan.
Over the next few hours he gave us a very interesting and somewhat funny (and yet in places sad talk) on the bloodlines of Koi and dealerships there are in Japan, taking us through the breeding and selection processes of Koi,the mudponds and housed ponds, his relationship with each of the dealers and their different ways ,with tales of drinking, genius, and somewhat quirky ways.(his laptop seemed to be that way as well)when it refused to do what it was told.
He then took us through the harrowing attack of KHV
that afflicted his business and the loss of some extremely beautiful koi. Then he went into just what the Japanese are now striving to do about this deadly disease.
So we would say that all in all it was a very interesting evening. Mike received a round of applause and goodies presented to him by our Chairman Terry Blackwell.
We all left with a greater knowledge of koi Appreciation. "Thank's again Mike for a great talk".
