Graham,
I see you've managed to upload a photo to the Gallery system (and I'm not going to make any comment about the fine body of personages contained within...)
Can you just let me know how you found the system. Easy to use? Difficult? What needs to be added?
I've found a few things I need to change (add to cart, hiding empry galleries), but all other comments are welcomed.....
Did you all know that once you've uploaded pictures to a Gallery, use the add Gallery2 images link below and you can quickly browse to your (or anyone else's) photos and include them in your posts?
Thanks,
Gareth

Sorry for not getting back sooner Gareth.
In basics it worked a treat, uploaded easy all ok, however I was not 100% what to do about making it public.
As this is test area and being a BKKS I would not put pictures on unless I thought members would want to see them, but from where I was sitting it looked like I was adding it to my own private gallery when really I wanted it to be on public display. Is it because you screen all pics first or was I over looking something.
Let me know and i'll have another go

By default users pictures are uploaded to their own "private" gallery; which is private in the sense that no-one else (except moderators) can access it.
Moderators can upload to other site galleries, which will be created as the need arises.
It would be nice to have Section galleries as well, but I'm not sure how to implement this yet.
Assuming you uploaded the picture of the parasite(?) then whatever you did seems to have worked fine!
I'll go through the process again myself and try and work out which text needs changing. Once I've done that, I just need to work out how to change it!
Gareth
It seems on the 2nd attempt Gareth I did nothing different apart from this time I obviously knew where things where so I understood it better, so far so good..
Now lets see if I can add this picy from gallery !!!

Looks successful. Seems the lunar eclipse has started early in Essex. (and there would be a smiley here - they are on the list...)
The most telling question here is organisational. It makes no sense for photos to live in a forum - they belong in a photo gallery. That has the code to organise, manipulate, and store them properly.
Compared to other sites out there - is loading pictures into a gallery and then into their post going to put people off from using this?
Gareth
In answer to that Gareth, your guess is as good as mine.
There will be times that I think the idea will be great, when talking about a certain koi in question that is in the gallery or an example of parasite like I displayed.
However can I ask a question ? the gallery idea is great and it works but when bringing a picture over from the gallery into the forum does it have an impact on memory size for database.
Last thing you would want is everyone linking to pictures and watching your disk space for database doubling in size over a short period of time.
I think the question that you originally raised should be put to a vote maybe as a poll in the live forums as we speak, what do you think ?

The link code is *very* compact along the lines of [ G 2 : 0 1 2 3 4 ] (spaces added to prevent image being picked up) so I'm not worried about the space issue at all. It's potentially a lot more compact than having the html to provide the image linked in every post, so I think that's a winner.
I'm also not sure about running a poll on the live forum as almost no-one uses the photo gallery (and I've no feedback as to why this might be).
Well then Gareth I think you have your answer, if it was not used before and no one has given you feedback as to why it was not used then you could have a dead duck on your hands.
Im guessing the reason why it was not used is either because people are nervous in using it for whatever reason, or simply because its not their cup of tea.
I honestly think its your call on this, its lovely to have and I for one would add pictures on it being a section member, but maybe some people are here simply for the chat and nothing else.

Given the number of photos that are posted on other sites, and the prevalence of sites like KoiVista, etc, that people seem only too happy to use.
I guess it's a matter of how to involve people rather than anything else.
The next version of this software has variable forum composition, so there would be the ability to create a photo-thread in the forum, so that may eventually be an option that people would be more willing to share. That's at least three months off though.
Gareth
Like the avatar logo's good idea to show which sections people are from.

Currently it's something I have to apply manually, and I'm looking at a way of getting the database to do it automatically. If I get some time this weekend I may be able to thrash it out.
The other thing is deciding who is allowed to wear each badge. I know most of the Essex crowd (usual suspects and all that) and my own section, but how do you confirm someone belongs to a section without a lengthy conversation with the section involved. And automating that is not going to be possible in the least. Similarly, having a moderator for each section cannot be applied to the badges code
Is this likely to be an issue for anyone - or if you sign up as coming from the Essex section, should you automatically recieve the badge.
Now, how do you get "Birmingham and West Midlands" into an 80x15 png image? Anyone?
It's things like this that keep me awake at night.....
Gareth
To even share the names and membership numbers of those people who are BKKS members, this is a non-starter I'm afraid.
On the account page, there is a box to choose your primary section (multi-select is not allowed). I'm looking at linking the database to this; but need some time to play with the schema. Of course, people could claim to be members of a section they are not - how do the sections want to police this - or is it even an issue for them???
Gareth
My feeling on that matter about policing it Gareth is that its not really an issue, if people want to advertise a section then I can only see it benefit the section UNLESS what that person is saying is detrimental to the club and could cause the club disrepute.
And if members of the section see a specific person with a link they could always be approached to ask, who, where they are ? and send the haevy mob round for unpaid fees
hee hee just kidding.

Blimey Gareth if this reply box gets any smaller it will be a one word per line post
EDIT: ignore this people ! I have found a way to change my view and am much happier.

Morning Gareth !
Badges look great for both Essex and Member, you seem to be getting a nice collection together already.

Hi
Gareth
Had a look at the albums but there are no photographs is this an oversight or do we have to dow load them ?
Rgrs
broxandval?
PS where's all the smileys ? gotta have smileys!!
Can you give me the URL?
If it's the main phot gallery in the users section, then I'm still trying to figure out how to sort it. There are a lot of empty albums which should be hidden.
The user photos haven't been transferred over yet.
Smileys are on the list of things to do. http://www.bkks.org.uk/portal/node/1
Hi
Gareth
I know that this isn't about the Photo's but apart form the little green man is there any way else to see who is online ?

broxandval
There is, but it's not installed/configured. Frankly I don't pay that much attention to them and don't know how well the other one was used - but if this is something that people want/use then I will add it to the list . . . .
Would be great to have Gareth, was handy to see who's asleep at there PC.

Who's online block now added - it shows on the outer right bar on the front page only. Let me know if you want to see it on more pages - most useful may be the forum but I've configured the bars not to display in the forum to leave more room for the posts.
I've also added a Who's new block to display new members as they subscribe - perhaps some of you freindly lot could welcome them on board!
Gareth
Great one Admin, looks just the ticket !
