BKKS National show feedback
Well I thought I would drop some feedback on the forum as its a good place to start.
Well I had a fantastic weekend, enjoyed every second well that was untill about 5 o'clock on Sunday when the heavens opened and I got drenched, but anyway little bit of rain wont kill you !
I spent the Saturday and Sunday on the main gate at the show with the rest of my Essex section buddies and also some great friends over at the Worthing section, I was amazed at how many people that was walking through the gates where not members of the BKKS. As you are probably aware members where charged at £6 for entry and £7.50 for non-members.
This is where I would like to make my suggestion for next years show, instead of having us (Gate Team) at the very front why cant we have an Information desk regarding the BKKS, also include this as a membership stand, this can then kill two birds with one stone, and i'll explain.
We have to ask public are you members or non members so that we know how much to charge, alot of people where saying we are members however we have lost our cards or have forgotten them or mainly people where saying they have had nothing through the post since the joined. This to us is unfortunate but we still have to charge them full price as they have no proof on them and there is nothing w can do at the gate to resolve the issues.
This is why im saying an information desk at the front will firstly help people to resolve there membership issues before they hit the paying desk and also it may give others the oppotunity to join prior to entrance and therefore not only getting cheaper access but joining up with the BKKS and the joys of koi keepers around the nation.

National Show
Hi Lakesidelad
Great to hear you enjoyed the show , sorry about the rain but I had a feeling it would but then it didn't detract from your enjoyment in anyway.
As to the gate why should members with no form of ID Not pay the full £7.50,we always have our ID with us when out and about as we get a discount on food of 10% at our local dealership, does carring a card at the national bring any other reward other than entry at the gate? if it doesn't then perhaps it should then people wouldn't forget their ID, besides whats £1.50 it all goes to help with the BKKS's funds. As to people not getting anything through the post since joining?,well that sounds as though admin is at fault and should be looked into urgently as to why it is taking so long to get them out to people.

What's in your wallet?
Broxandval,
My card is always in my wallet, no reason for not having it there. I am in the same boat as you, a couple of my local dealers also give me 10% on purchases showing my bkks membership.
Apart from the slight £1.50 reduction at the main gate goes, im not sure if there is anything else at the showground that does reward them.
I agree that it maybe a slight admin error along the way in regards to people not getting there membership details, and im also sute that this is being looked into by the council concerned, my reason for this post is just to highlight that there was more non members through the gate than members and that between now and next year I would like to hear when asking the public are you a member or non-member? that I get the feedback of member :)
I just feel an information desk at the front would benefit the show.
Thank you
Graham

Hi Lakesidelad
Surely though the information desk at the front would then have the effect of slowing down entry to the show site causing a long queue which is something you don't really want to happen.
Perhaps it would be an idea if we put forwards some sort of discount within the show ground.
It is also great that you get the answer non-member as they are the ones we want for the Society but is it too much pressure by getting them to join at the information desk better to let them make their own minds up by what they see in the show ground.

another suggestion
That I've made in the past is to refund (a part) of the admission fee to those joining on the day. This was turned down last time but could well be revisited. Do we issue members and non-members different tickets?
I have had people moaning to me they are members and were forced to pay the extra as they did not have the card, but the posters clearly state this and if it were me forgetting my card, I'd count it as my fault and not blame anyone else.
I'm not sure that the entrance is the right place for the information stand given the layout of the showground, that would mean moving a lot of other things around as well.
Yes Gareth there are
Yes Gareth there are different tickets given to people at the gate.
Its all well and good by saying if they forget there tickets then it is there own fault, but you try explaining that when your working on the main gate !
They expect you to look up their membership there and then and to provide them with it, we even had one gentleman that walked up to us to say I have not got my membership card and before we even had a second to explain anything he had turned around and shouted im not paying for a non members when im a member and stormed off. It was not until we had the chance to speak to one of his friends that had already paid and walked through that his friend then paid for him and the guy came back.
Gareth your suggestion seems a very sensible idea and should be looked into. But I stand by my suggestion that some type of information stand or membership details stand prior would be beneficial as it could resolve matters before it got to the paying desk, this would then actually speed up the public coming though as all matters had been resolved, instead of possibly having a queue with people informing us they are members but dont have info, can you see where im comng from ?

Good Idea
Why was your idea turned down as it's a very good idea, as to people forgetting their ID and it being clearly stated on the posters?well like you we would do the same if we forgot ours

Guys, the best place for
Guys, the best place for people to go if they have a problem with paying the full amount is the Membership Stand. If they had paid the full entry fee we could have checked their membership, if they were fully paid up members ok, a refund, if not it would have been an ideal opportunity to nail them into joining with our DD offer at the Show. Indeed if they had any problems about the entry fee or membership they should have come and spoken with me as I was on the Membership Stand for the whole of the weekend. I didnt even have change to have a look at the craft stands........not good I took too much money home with me! Does anyone have a photo of the entrance with those nice big pictures??
Council are anticipating a longer run up period to the show for 2009, i.e. we start on everything within the next couple of months. That way we shouldnt drop the ball on anything!
As always your comments are noted and will be passed on to the relevant quarters.

Back to the show feedback!
I thought it was a cracking weekend, I dont think I had anything at all to grumble about. Thought the dinner dance new venue was great and the people who worked there were very friendly and very fogiving of all the balloons that some nutters kept letting off.
Oh yes, there wasnt a bar extension back at the Ibis hotel which there usually is. We cam prepared though ......
A greta weekend though, thanks to all who put it together and spent their weekend working there
